Good News, iOS 16.2 Coming Soon. Have you tried using these iOS 16.1 features?

iOS 16.1

Apple's third beta developer version of iOS 16.2 is now available for download. This means that iOS 16.2 will soon be available widely. Have you already checked out iOS 16.1's new features? In October, the latest iOS software was available for compatible iPhones and iPads running iPadOS 16. iOS 16.1 adds new features to your iPhone, tweaks, and fixes. This is a follow-up of iOS 16's new tricks like the ability to send unsend messages, and further customize your lockscreen.

This is what iOS 16.1 has to offer and how each feature works. We show you how to download the update if you haven’t already. Want to dive deeper into your iPhone's settings? You'll find all the hidden settings and features that will optimize your iPhone.

iCloud Shared Photos Library

It can be difficult to share photos with family and friends after a night out, or on vacation. Using iCloud Shared Photos Library, you can share photos and videos easily with up to five people.

Anyone with access to the Shared Photos Library can edit, delete and add content. Upload photos directly from your iPhone to the library. You can also add photos to it when you're physically present with other users who have access.

You can't join two shared libraries at the same time. If you move photos from your personal collection to the shared library they won't be duplicated. They can only be found in that shared library.

Live Activities on Dynamic Island and Lock Screen

Live Activities gives the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max their Dynamic Island and lock screens a boost. Your Dynamic Island and lock screen will display notifications from third party apps, such as sports games or flights with Live Activities.

Apple Fitness Plus without an Apple Watch

Apple Fitness Plus is now available on iOS 16.1. An iPhone 8 or later can be used to track and set goals for your fitness.

Battery display updates

The battery percentage can now be displayed in the icon for the iPhone XR and XR. The font used to display the battery icon has been slightly larger, making it easier for users to read.

Wallpaper and lock screen update

Apple has made it easier to change your wallpaper in iOS 16.1. You can now add a wallpaper to the Settings > Wallpaper menu. Additionally, you can swipe through the existing wallpapers. You can now edit your wallpaper from your lock screen.

Interface for screenshot editing tools updated

Editing a screenshot with the editing menu displays the delete, save, and copy options across the top of the screen in a smaller, more user-friendly menu. These options used to be at the bottom screen of your iPhone.

Wallet app upgrades

With Messages or WhatsApp, you can securely share your car, hotel room and other Wallet App information. Apple Card customers can increase their Daily Cash by placing their savings in a high-yield savings bank. If you wish, you can also delete the Wallet application from your iPhone.

Matter connects smart homes via Matter

Matter, the smart home connectivity standard for the future, is now available. This means that you can now control smart devices such as Alexa or Google Assistant directly from your iPhone.

Setting up clean energy charging

The Battery section of Settings now has a Clean Energy Charging toggle. This setting can help you reduce your carbon footprint while charging your iPhone. Your iPhone will only charge when there is lower carbon emission electricity available if you have Clean Energy Charging enabled. This setting appears to be turned on by default. However, you can toggle it off by going to Settings > Battery > Battery health & Charging and tapping next to Clean Energy Charging.

Apple Books interface upgrade

Your reader controls will be automatically hidden if you are reading books on an iPhone.

Bug fixes

Apple also fixed a few bugs. These fixes include deleted messages appearing in Messages and Dynamic Island content not showing up when Reachability is used. Also, CarPlay will not connect to a VPN app.
